Longhorns Hope To Pass Final Fall Test

Hungry and confident, the Longhorns are out to prove that last season was a hoax. More offense will help them establish that.

The Longhorns will face Texas State Sunday in their final fall game of the year. The team is coming off of a solid 9-3, 14-inning victory over Sam Houston State.

Madison Carter and Erich Weiss were the top performers in last week’s game, each going 2-for-6 at the plate with three and two RBIs, respectively. Weiss will likely buoy the team again this season after batting .350 last season while also leading the team in 71 hits and 38 RBIs.

“The last few years we started getting passive and not aggressive,” outfielder Mark Payton said. “In this game we were aggressive, and it definitely showed. We had a lot better at bats and hit the ball well.”

Against Sam Houston State, freshman Chad Hollingsworth threw his hat in the ring as a capable pitcher. Hollingsworth started the game, combining with nine other pitchers in what became a 10 scoreless-inning performance to begin the game.
