PumpkinHead of the Colorado

Texas Rowing’s fall season is in full launch as Texas heads into its first annual home regatta hosted by the local Austin Rowing Club. These races in particular are not only great for home water advantages, but this is the novice team’s first time racing in fall competition. Ex-novice rower Christine Young, now leading the top boat for the novice girls, feels confident moving into races this weekend.

“Last PumpkinHead, the novice team set the bar high by taking first place in the Novice Eight category,” Young said. “There are four experienced rowers this year in my boat this fall. We not only have the chance to match last seasons outcomes but further beat times and once again higher expectations for ourselves.”

The novice team has been hard at work evolving, as varsity has been an excellent representation of Texas in early season races. Not only does this regatta mark the first home races for both varsity and novice races but also recognizes them as last season’s Big 12 champions.

Returning novices and varsity alumni from last year will receive their championship rings earned in Oklahoma at Big 12, a reminder to the girls of not only their past success but their future goals. Both teams will be competing throughout Saturday at Festival Beach Park located on Lady Bird Lake.
