Texas enters the 2012 season — Tuesday night in an exhabiton against Incarnate Word — with a new look. After an 18-14 seaspm Gail Goestenkors resigned last March, and Karen Aston became the new head coach for the Longhorns. Aston used to be the head coach at North Texas, where she tripled the team’s victory total in just one season. She also served as assistant to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt at UT from 1998 to 2006.
The Longhorns have been hard at work in preparation for their debut.
“I have been very impressed with Cokie Reed and where she is today,” Aston said. “She obviously has some limitations in how many reps she can go, but I am extremely impressed with her leadership ability and where she is physically and mentally. I would also say that Nneka Enemkpali has been extremely impressive to me. She’s become consistent with her work ethic and that’s a big thing for me.”
