Sooners red hot from the floor in first half

Squeaking shoes aren’t usually the loudest part of a rivalry game. There’s also typically a sellout crowd on hand to watch Texas and Oklahoma play, no matter the sport. Texas has even won its last seven matchups against the Sooners at the Erwin Center. But just minutes after the opening tip, the game’s momentum had already swung in the Sooners favor.

Buoyed by a shooting clinic put on by Steven Pledger, the Sooners enter halftime with a 43-28 lead over Texas. Pledger hit five of six three-point attempts on his way to 15 first-half points. Romero Osby joined in with 10 points of his own. Both Pledger and Osby enjoyed superb looks at the basket thanks to crisp passing from the Sooners’ guards.

For Texas, the scoring was more evenly distributed with Javan Felix, Demarcus Holland and Connor Lammert all scoring five points to lead the Longhorns. Texas got off to a hot start shooting the three ball by hitting its first three attempts, but the Longhorns 3-for-8 mark from beyond the arc pales in comparison to the Sooners’ 7-for-9 clip from three-point range.

The Sooners shot 70.8 percent from the field in the first half and converted seven Texas turnovers into 11 points.
