Longhorns bounce back from loss to dominate Abilene Christian and Rice

Texas bounced back from its woes of losing to top-ranked Virginia with a strong showcase against Abilene Christian and Rice. The Longhorns played host Saturday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center as they completed a six-match home stand.

It was the best outing of the season for Texas as the Longhorns (12-5) swept both Abilene Christian (10-11) and Rice (8-9), winning all fourteen possible points in the two matches. Texas didn’t drop a single game all day, winning matches in straight sets. The Longhorns hold a 7-1 home record this season, with their only loss being dealt at the hands of No. 1 Virginia. “I think we have learned a lot this year to this point,” Head Coach Michael Center said. “We came in this year with a little different attitude, but I think as the year has gone on, our team has learned that every point is an opportunity to change the momentum of the match. If you compete and fight, good things can happen.”

With the two wins this weekend, Texas has ended non-conference play for the season. Next week the Longhorns will face-off against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
