Men’s tennis hosts Red Raiders

Texas will play host again this weekend as it continues conference play in preparation for the Big 12 Championships. Texas Tech will face the Longhorns at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on Sunday.

Texas needs to win the match to maintain a winning record in conference play — the win would put them at 3-2 against Big 12 foes and behind only Baylor and Oklahoma in the conference standings heading into the Big 12 Championships.

The Red Raiders are at a must-win point in their season as they face TCU and Texas this weekend. If they cannot pull off an upset against either team, they might be knocked out of the NCAA Championships. That means they’ll be out for blood if they lose to TCU when they roll into Austin on Sunday. The Longhorns will need to be ready, focused and determined if they are to finish the season strong.

And Texas does have the capability of playing well if given the opportunity. Sophomore standout Soren Hess-Olesen leads the Longhorns, but they have a solid group of upperclassmen and underclassmen who can perform. Daniel Whitehead, Lloyd Glasspool, Nick Naumann, Sudanwa Sitaram. All of these guys can step up and play big-time if the situation calls for it.

The first match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
