Draft Results: Mavs, Rockets and Spurs

In the 2013 NBA Draft, the three teams from Texas all took difference approaches to make their picks.

The Dallas Mavericks took two in the draft but didn’t end up with any of them at the end of the night. Instead, they acquired Shane Larkin out of the University of Miami with pick No. 18 from the Atlanta Hawks. Larkin fills the Maverick’s need for a young center to go alongside an aging Dirk Nowitzki.

Prior to the draft on Thursday, the Houston Rockets traded away their first round pick in order to get James Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Rockets received Harden and several others in exchange for two first round picks and a second round pick. They were left with only one selection, pick No. 34 from the Phoenix Suns. With that pick they selected Isaiah Canaan, a point guard out of Murray State.

The San Antonio Spurs used their picks to grab Livio Jean-Carles from France and Deshaun Thomas from Ohio State University. Jean-Carles was chosen 28th overall but is expected to continue to develop in France for another year before making the move to America and the NBA. Thomas, who was selected 58th overall, is expected to contribute with his high-scoring tendencies.
