5 prominent facts from Steve Patterson’s past

1. From 1989 to 1993, Patterson served as the general manager of the Houston Rockets, and oversaw recruitment of much of the 1993-1994 roster that won the franchise’s first NBA championship.

2. In 1995, the International Hockey League named Patterson Executive of The Year for his service as president and general manager of the Houston Aeros.

3. Patterson helped establish the Houston Texans’ NFL franchise and served as the team’s senior vice president and chief development officer from 1997 to 2003. During his Texans tenure, Patterson assisted in planning the construction of Reliant Stadium, established the team’s business operations and brought Super Bowl XXXVIII to Houston.


4. Prior to his arrival at Arizona State, Patterson served as president of Pro Sports Consulting — a firm that helps companies, universities and individuals with the assessment, selection and development of their players, management and staff.

5. Patterson earned his undergraduate degree at the McCombs School of Business and graduated from the UT School of Law. Patterson’s son, Austin, is an advertising senior at UT.
