Women’s golf tied at seventh after first round of tournament

The Texas women’s golf team finished the first day of the Jim West Invitational tied for seventh place. After 18 holes, the team posted a 6-over par score of 294 with Anne Hakula sitting tied for 62nd place in the individual competition with a 9-over par. Junior Haley Mills leads the team, tied for seventh place with an impressive 1-under par round of 71.

Junior Julia Beck finished tied for 17th with a 1-over par score of 73 while sophomore Sophia Schubert tied for 26th, just one back of Beck with a 74. Freshman Maddie Luitwieler finished 4-over par tied for 44th place, while senior Tezira Abe tied for 59th with a score of 80.

Kent State and Texas A&M are currently leading the pack by five strokes with a total of 285. Texas A&M’s Maddie Szeryk took the outright lead three strokes ahead of the rest with a 6-under par 66. A&M is looking to defend their title after last year’s tournament.

The two other Big 12 teams finished all across the board. Texas Tech is currently tied for third while Oklahoma is in ninth place. The Longhorns still have two more days with 36 holes to improve their scores.
