The ITA All-American Championship continued Tuesday with the qualifying men’s singles and doubles rounds.
Longhorns junior George Goldhoff and freshman Liam Caruana debuted playing in the qualifying singles round. Kentucky sophomore William Bushamuka defeated Caruana in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2, as Goldhoff edged Washington freshman Enzo Sommer 6-4, 6-4, in the first round. In the second-round contest, Goldhoff played BYU sophomore Shane Monroe and came up short losing 6-1, 6-3. The loss eliminated him from the tournament.
Sophomore John Mee advanced to the qualifying singles draw on Monday after defeating Ole Miss’ Gustav Hansson 7-5, 6-2. Mee then went on to beat UCF junior Mariano Porter 7-5, 6-2, before falling to Virginia junior Luca Corinteli 6-1, 6-2.
In the first round of qualifying doubles, Mee and senior Michael Riechmann faced Virginia Tech seniors Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro, falling in straight sets. Goldhoff and Caruana squared off against Florida’s McClain Kessle and Alfredo Perez, losing 6-4, 7-6.
Play continues Wednesday in the round of 32 for qualifying doubles.
