The Longhorns set themselves up in prime position for their first win of the spring season in the first two rounds of the UNF Collegiate on Monday, but all hope of a team win fell by the wayside in Tuesday’s final round.

Texas limped through the last 18 holes with a score of 10-over par to finish in second, 10 shots behind tournament winner Houston.

After finishing Monday in a tie for first, sophomore Sophia Schubert posted a four-over 76, ending the tournament in a tie for third. Senior Natalie Karcher was the Longhorn to break even for the final round, posting an even 72 to finish in a tie for eighth.

Juniors Julia Beck and Haley Mills each shot rounds of 3-over, ending the tournament in ties for 26th and 30th respectively. Freshman Maddie Luitwieler struggled with a 9-over 81, the worst of the tournament for the Longhorns, and finished in a tie for 21st.

In addition to the team title, Houston also grabbed the individual title with Megan Thothong and Emily Gilbreth tying for first for the Cougars at one-over par.

The Longhorns will return to action March 19 for the Texas-Hawaii Classic in Oahu, Hawaii.
