Longhorns hope for good weather against Penn

The Longhorns will look to defend their undefeated home record on Thursday as they host Pennsylvania at the Whitaker courts.

Austin is the third stop on Penn’s spring break trip to Texas. The Quakers start the week off with North Texas and UT-Arlington before facing Rice on Friday.

Pennsylvania is currently unranked and struggling on its trip to Texas. The Quakers dropped their first two matches, breaking their five-match win streak.

The Longhorns figure to have the upper hand in the outdoor contest. Pennsylvania’s home matches are played indoors, while Texas competes outdoors most of the time.

“Clearly if we are able to play outdoors, that would present some sort of an advantage for us,” Texas head coach Howard Joffe said.

But forecasts say that there could be unfavorable weather later in the week, which would force the match indoors.

No matter the weather, Texas comes into the match riding a wave of momentum after beating then-No. 4 Michigan last weekend.

“The win against Michigan underscores what everyone knows, which is we are a formidable team but also capable of doing some excellent things like beating a top-10 team,” Joffe said. “Being early March, I think the ladies are doing an excellent job.”

Play begins on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Whitaker courts.
