No. 21 Texas goes head to head with UTSA

No. 21 Texas brought home two wins Saturday in a day-night doubleheader over the visiting UTSA Roadrunners. In their first match, the Longhorns dealt the Roadrunners a 5-2 loss, and they won 4-0 in the evening match.

Texas won a pair of doubles matches in the first match to take the doubles point and headed into singles play 1-0. Texas collected three consecutive singles match wins from freshmen Harrison Scott, Rodrigo Banzer and Colin Markes to take the win.

In the next match against UTSA, Texas won all three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.  In singles, sophomore Adrian Ortiz took down senior Eric Buchalter 6-0 and 6-1. Sophomore John Mee followed in his lead, defeating sophomore Christian Carrillo 6-2 and 6-4. Finally, freshman Johnny Goodwin closed the evening out with 6-0 and 6-1 wins over junior Fabian Brand.

“We want to get familiar with these courts and the surroundings, and we’ve got some conference matches coming up here,” said head coach Michael Center proceeding the matches. “We’re 0-0 now starting into a very difficult conference schedule, so we’re excited.”

Texas returns to action in Big 12 Conference play Tuesday evening against Baylor.
