Starting May 9, students can try out for the role of Hook ’Em and for the Texas Hype Squad.
Hook ’Em, the jersey-wearing Longhorn seen dancing and pumping up the crowd at UT sporting events, is the official mascot of Texas Athletics. Over the course of a year, Hook ’Em can be seen not only on the basketball court or on the football field, but also in promotional skits and commercials. In addition, Hook ’Em travels to international events and festivals to represent Longhorn athletics and pride.
The Texas Hype Squad accompanies Hook ’Em at UT athletic events, decked out in orange and white at every home game. The official interactive squad of Texas Athletics, the Hype Squad is responsible for entertaining the crowd during commercial breaks and time-outs.
Additionally, the Hype Squad conducts in-game promotions and events, tosses out T-shirts and gives away prizes to Longhorn fans. Both Hook ’Em and Hype Squad members have opportunities to travel with UT athletic teams to tournament games.
To request a tryout time, students should email [email protected] with a brief description of themselves as well as any relevant experience involving performing or public speaking. Try-outs will be held from May 9–10 in the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
