Texas is tied for seventh after Saturday’s second round at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Longhorns finished 1-over par for the day, putting them at 10-over overall and seven shots off the lead.

“I think the guys played really well today at 1-over par,” head coach John Fields said. “It was a challenging day. Now it's just time to get prepared for tomorrow. We need to keep trying to add a little more momentum. Hopefully the guys are getting more and more comfortable with the golf course.”

Junior Beau Hossler is tied for 14th after shooting a second-straight even par 70. Sophomore Scottie Scheffler used a 1-under 69 to move 28 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 24th at 1-over overall.

Sophomore Doug Ghim and junior Gavin Hall each posted a 1-over 71 on Saturday. Ghim sits in a tie for 53rd at 4-over, and Hall is tied for 82nd at 6-over.

“We definitely have some momentum going into [Sunday],” Scheffler said. “We would like to be higher up on the leaderboard, but we are still building some confidence going into the next couple days.”

The Longhorns tee off at 9 a.m. on Sunday for the third round. The top 15 teams will advance to Monday’s final round. From there, the top eight teams will advance to the match play bracket.

“We are certainly not going to take anything for granted,” Hossler said. “There is a long way to go for us — we have two more rounds. Hopefully we can have two really good ones.”
