Texas Athletics entices students to attend basketball games through shuttle service

The Frank Erwin Center sits on the southwest corner of the university’s campus. It’s about a mile and a half away from Duren Residence Hall, which lies on the northwest corner of campus.

According to Apple’s Maps app, it takes 29 minutes to walk from one end to the other. The haul is much longer for many students who live in West Campus.

But Texas Athletics made the long trek to “The Drum” less burdensome with its new Texas Basketball Student Shuttle program which made its debut last night for the women’s game against Oklahoma. The route has four stops including the Erwin Center.

Buses will pick students up at 30 minute intervals from three different locations: Pluckers Wing Bar at 2222 Rio Grande St., Carothers Dormitory at 2501 Whitis Ave. and at the northwest corner of 21st Street and San Jacinto Boulevard. Pickup services start 90 minutes before tip-off.

The shuttle also provides rides back to the three pickup locations after the game. Students may be picked up from the east entrance of the Erwin Center until an hour after the game’s end.

Student IDs are not required to board the buses, but seating is subject to availability.
