No. 11 Texas (7–1) enters its doubleheader against Purdue and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday with something to prove.

The Longhorns are hoping to post a better performance after edging out Virginia Tech last weekend in a tightly contested 4–3 win. Despite ultimately prevailing, the outing revealed some room for improvement.

Freshman Christian Sigsgaard, who is ranked No. 5 in the individual ITA rankings, struggled in his singles match against Virginia Tech’s Jai Corbett. Corbett pulled off the upset, defeating Sigsgaard 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.

“He’s had a hard time closing some matches out,” head coach Michael Center said. “Mentally, he has to work through that, but he’ll get there.”

The upcoming doubleheader marks the end of the Longhorns’ five-match home stand. Texas has been undefeated during the stretch.

The Longhorns have taken advantage of their surroundings, feeding off the burnt orange crowd in key moments.

“It’s always nice to play at home,” Center said. “You have a 10 to 15 percent edge when you’re on your home court, so we’d love to play all of our matches here if we could.”

Texas punched its ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Virginia earlier this season. With the tournament beginning Feb. 17, the Longhorns are viewing Sunday’s doubleheader as an opportunity to get into a rhythm and polish their game.

“We need to play a lot better this Sunday,” Center said. “I don’t think anybody will have a hard time keeping their eye on what we’re trying to get done. This will be a very important week for us.”

The first serve against Purdue is scheduled for 12 p.m., followed by Texas’ match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m.
