The Texas defense has taken another hit.

Junior cornerback Holton Hill announced on Monday afternoon that he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. Hill did not state explicitly if he’ll play in the Texas Bowl against Missouri.

“The past three years at Texas have been a great learning experience for me, and I appreciate everyone who has helped me throughout my college career, especially Coach Herman, Coach Washington, Coach Orlando and Coach Strong,” Hill said in a statement. “I am blessed to have had the opportunity to play for such an amazing program at the University of Texas, and I know the values that have been instilled in me and lessons I’ve learned will continue to propel me forward at the next level.”

Hill becomes the third Longhorn to declare for the NFL draft, joining junior safety DeShon Elliott and junior left tackle Connor Williams.

Hill had been suspended for the rest of the season following the TCU game on Nov. 4 for a violation of team rules, but he was still allowed to practice with the team.

Prior to his suspension, Hill was experiencing a breakout season and had greatly improved his draft stock, becoming the Longhorns’ best cover corner along the way.

The Houston native quickly made a name for himself early in the season by recording a pick-six in each of Texas’ first two games.

Despite missing the final three games of the regular season, Hill still finished fifth on the team in total tackles and tied for second in interceptions.

“I can’t say enough about the support my teammates have given me,” Hill said. “Those guys are going to always be my teammates, and I know that bond will last way beyond our time here at Texas. I also appreciate the great fans, and even though I’m moving on, I’m always going to be a Longhorn.”
