Coffee shops aren’t only famous for their calm environments that are perfect for studying; they also offer the delicious caffeinated drinks that fuel all college students.

But with dozens of coffee shops in the Austin area to choose from, it can be difficult to pick the perfect one for you.

So, when one of our readers asked us, “What are some of the best coffee shops in Austin?” we looked into it as part of Curious Campus, our series where we answer reader-submitted questions every week.

Bennu Coffee

Located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Poquito Street, Bennu Coffee is a popular 24/7 coffee shop among UT students that specializes in locally-sourced specialty drinks.

Public health senior Maria Rios said Bennu Coffee is her favorite coffee shop because of their hours and because it has a very calm vibe. Rios said she likes drinking their coffee and ice tea there while she studies.

“I first went there … with a friend and I fell in love with it,” Rios said. “Their lattes are delicious and are inspired by literary classics and authors.”

Flightpath Coffeehouse

Flightpath Coffeehouse, which is located at the intersection of East 51st and Duval Streets, is a neighborhood coffee shop that has offers unique drinks to Austin residents for more than 20 years.

English sophomore Morgan Whisenhunt said she likes Flightpath because not only does the coffee have variety, but the atmosphere is also ideal for studying.

“I usually study here, but sometimes I’ll go in there with friends just to relax, too,” Whisenhunt said. “The music is set on a medium-low volume, there is a lot of indoor and outdoor space, there are ample outlets on the walls, and it’s never too talkative.”

Lucky Lab

Lucky Lab offers handcrafted coffee & iced beverages and the chance to pet some adorable dogs at the intersection of West 25th and Guadalupe Streets – just across from campus.

Corporate communications junior Kara Markert said she regularly goes to Lucky Lab because she likes studying there and enjoys their seasonal drinks and pastries.

“Lucky Lab is my favorite because they have unique flavors depending on the season, but their pastries are the main reason I go,” Markert said. “You can’t beat the house-made flaky pop tarts and warm breads and scones they offer.”

La Tazza Fresca

La Tazza Fresca is a local Austin coffee shop that serves everything from chocolate vanilla coffee to popular pastries. It’s located at the intersection of West 37th and Guadalupe Streets.

English junior Michelle Duran said La Tazza Fresca is somewhere warm where she can write her papers or curl up with a good book.

“I started going here at the beginning of this fall semester because most other coffee shops are always packed and it’s difficult to find a table,” Duran said. “But at La Tazza Fresca, I’m able to find somewhere and have room to do whatever work I’m doing.”
