The past 24 hours have seen a carousel of breaking news updates at the quarterback position for Texas.

Quarterback Cameron Rising is the latest to add to the news cycle after taking to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to announce that he is transferring to the University of Utah.

Rising entered the NCAA transfer database in December, but traveled to New Orleans with the Longhorns for Sugar Bowl preparations.

Rising was listed as the Longhorns’ third-string quarterback last year during his true freshman season. He did not see any game action.

With quarterbacks Shane Buechele and Casey Thompson also having entered the transfer portal, the Longhorns’ depth chart for this spring could look very different than it did at the end of the 2018 season.

Although the Longhorns officially lost Rising on Thursday, the team signed former Westlake and Austin High School quarterback Sam Saxton as a preferred walk-on.

Saxton is a three-star recruit who finished his career at St. Michael’s Academy. Saxton’s father, Jimmy, and grandfather, James, both previously played for the Longhorns as well.
