The Texas women’s tennis team concluded its fall season with nine total victories over four days of competition at the Austin 18K UTR Tournament.

Seniors Fernanda Labraña and Marta Perez Mur along with freshmen Malaika Rapolu and Charlotte Chavatipon competed in both singles and doubles play during the tournament held at the Austin Tennis Academy.

The experienced duo of Labraña and Perez Mur made it all the way to the doubles championship before falling in two close sets 7-6 and 6-4. Chavatipon found success in singles play, where her ability and talent took her to the singles semifinals before falling in two sets 6-2 and 6-3.

The Longhorns captured five victories on Nov. 10. Rapolu and Chavatipon easily defeated individuals in two set contests each in the singles main draw round of 32. Perez Mur had a hard-fought win in which she dropped the first set, but came back to win the next two and the match. In the doubles main draw round of 16, the pairing of Labraña and Perez Mur along with the pair of Chavatipon and Rapolu both defeated their opponents in two decisive sets.

The Longhorns captured two more victories the next day. Chavatipon easily took care of business in a two set match in the singles main draw round of 16. Labraña and Perez Mur dominated in a two-set victory of their own in the doubles main draw quarter finals.

Day three of the tournament brought about two more victories for the Longhorns, still competing for a championship. Chavatipon advanced from the singles main draw quarterfinal in a two-set win, making her one of only four individuals left in the singles competition. Labraña and Perez Mur took care of business in two sets in the doubles main draw semifinals, making their way to the championship match.

The final day of the tournament for the Longhorns was an unexpected one that saw three-day winning streaks come to an end. Chavatipon couldn’t mount a comeback after losing the first set, dropping the next one and knocking her out of the tournament in the singles main draw semifinals. Labraña and Perez Mur’s connection wasn’t enough as they came up short in the doubles main draw championship.

With the fall season now wrapped up, the Longhorns are looking ahead to the spring. Texas expects to gain three players in seniors Anna Turati, junior Tijana Spasojevic and freshman Lulu Sun.

With a full roster and a desire to compete, the Longhorns are determined to make a run at both the Big 12 and NCAA Championship.
