A lot can change in three months. However, after a long hiatus since their last game on Nov. 13, the Texas volleyball team swept the Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 Friday afternoon in Austin.

The Longhorns initially appeared rusty in their first set against the Sooners, at one point trailing 11-7. But after an Oklahoma timeout with the Sooners leading 18-17, Texas clicked back into gear and put up eight unanswered points, showing signs of the undefeated fall 2020 team.

Texas was forced once again to come from behind in the second set, trailing 16-13. After fighting back to tie the game at 19 apiece, the Longhorns launched a well-timed 6-3 run to win the set 25-22.

Oklahoma clawed toward a comeback in the third set, leading 15-9 halfway through. Texas looked as if they would drop the third set and fail to sweep the Sooners after they fell to a 19-15 deficit. However, the Longhorns once again displayed their calm resilience by putting up a 7-2 run to make it a 22-21 game in the last moments of thet set.

The Longhorns then delivered two clutch kills and were granted an attack error by the Sooners to seal a 25-22 victory and a three-match sweep.

Junior outside hitter Logan Eggleston’s performance led the way for Texas in their first contest of 2021. Eggleston produced 16 kills, including a game-sealer near the end of the third set. A 2020 three-time Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honoree, Eggleston also racked up three aces and a block, showcasing her well-rounded style of play.

The now 15–0 Longhorns are meeting the Sooners once again in Austin on Saturday at noon, and Wednesday they will go up against their rivals, the No. 6 Baylor Bears, at home at 7 p.m.
