Ken Paxton wins attorney general race

Incumbent Ken Paxton won the attorney general race against Rochelle Garza with 53.5% of the vote.

“Just because we won tonight, the fight is not over,” said Paxton, according to the Texas Tribune. “They’re going to continue to come after me, they’re going to continue to come after Texas. They’re going to continue to come after Republicans around the country and we cannot let them win.”

The attorney general’s office — Texas’s chief legal office — has the power to file civil suits when needed by other state agencies. The office is meant to enforce the rights of all citizens of Texas, including the protection of the elderly, disabled and collection of court-ordered child support, according to the state website
