RecSports and University Health Services launched UT’s pilot outreach clinic at Gregory Gym in October, in an effort to make health services more convenient and accessible.
The UHS Outreach Clinic provides UT students with quick and quality services, along with consultations from registered nurses. According to the RecSports website, the clinic offers comprehensive sexually transmitted infections testing, electronic prescriptions, expert consultations with UHS registered nurses, 20-minute appointments with lab services and rapid test results in just 1-2 days.
Terrance Hines, executive director and chief medical officer of UHS, said they wanted to remove the barrier of location and bring health services closer to where students live and study every day.
“It was an opportunity for us to pilot a project where we could insert a certain clinic in the central campus to see if that makes seeking care more accessible, more convenient to students,” Hines said.
The clinic is located on the basement level at Gregory Gym in Room 1.206 and is available only to University students. Students make appointments by calling 512-471-4955 or through the online portal.
STI screening is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nurse Consultations are available from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
As of right now, UHS Outreach Clinic offers limited services, but Hines said they hope to expand the services available.
“This is sort of a first step to see if it adds value to the student experience,” Hines said. “If it makes it more convenient and more accessible for them.”
