Austin students join nonprofit feeding frontline workers, supporting local restaurants

In the midst of a global pandemic, Alex Seiler said she saw an opportunity to serve. Seiler started the Austin branch of Fuel the Fight in response to the coronavirus crisis. Fuel the Fight is a volunteer-based organization that utilizes 100% of its donations to buy meals from local restaurants for nurses and doctors on the front lines.

Marillah King numbered and signed the last 10 boxes. Seven were sold to students outside the University Co-op. The last box she would sell as a Girl Scout was bought by her grandparents. On Sunday, King broke her own record, selling over 10,000 boxes.

Jordan Blumberg can answer the question “Where are you from?” in more than three different ways. “I don’t have a good answer,” said Blumberg, an electrical engineering freshman. “No one understands that (I’ve) lived all over the world, just the same way that (I) don’t understand that they’ve lived in the same place for their entire lives.”
