Florida Gov. follows Perry's lead on $10k degrees

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced he is pushing Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s goal for $10,000 bachelor degrees.

During a press conference at St. Petersburg College on Monday, Scott said he is challenging Florida universities and colleges to create bachelor degree programs that can be achieved for $10,000 or less. Perry issued this challenge to Texas universities and colleges in 2011, and since then nine Texas institutions have made plans to offer $10,000 degrees.

Florida’s St. Petersburg College is the first Florida institution to offer a $10,000 degree.

Perry and Scott said the $10,000 degree push is in response to increasing tuition. UT Austin does not offer a $10,000 degree, and UT President William Powers Jr. has previously said he does not think the University should.
