The Memorial of Bradford Killen

Photo Editor’s note: I mentioned yesterday that a former photo editor, Jeff Heimsath, once said he had “never seen a photo of a back that [he] liked”, a good rule of thumb that attempt to instruct young photographers to get in front of their subjects. But as I said, sometimes it works. Or, at least, the photographer makes the best of the situation. Especially when there are three. Shadows don’t hurt, either. This photo was taken at the memorial of Bradford Killen, a UT student who died during a study abroad trip in Prague. It’s a serene photo that captures the quiet respect paid to the student by the attendees. -Lawrence Peart
