The Daily Texan Podcast is a weekly, student-run podcast recapping each week in UT and related news. New episodes Fridays at 5pm.

FALL 2015

December 4, 2015: On this week's episode of The Daily Texan Newscast, we cover the Austin Police Department’s implementation of body cameras, Peace Corps applications and the new Kin’s Coffee coming to campus. Get a sports update before the final football game of the season. Reporter Matthew Adams joins us to discuss the Fisher v. UT case before the Supreme Court hearings next week. Tune in for a roundup of the best albums of the year.


November 20, 2015: On this week’s episode of The Daily Texan Newscast, we discuss the UT community’s response to the Paris attacks, campus carry updates and the University’s investigation of a confrontation between members of the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a professor and unidentified attendee at an Institute for Israel Studies event. Get an update on the state of UT Athletics and tune in for a special edition of the Daily Texan Backbeat: The Global Teen Heartthrob Showdown.  

November 13, 2015: On this week’s episode of The Daily Texan Newscast, we cover Noodles and Company’s closure, solar-powered, phone-charging umbrellas coming to campus and renovations to Welch Hall. October 16, 2015: On this week’s episode of The Daily Texan Newscast, we discuss Bevo’s passing, the Hidden Pines Fire in Bastrop County, campus carry protests and Veggie Heaven’s comeback. We also cover the newest regulations on ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft and analyze guns as a key part of CNN’s Democratic debate and UT’s Student Government debate. October 9, 2015: On this week's episode of The Daily Texan Newscast, we discuss the online threat to campus which UTPD deemed non-credible  Daniel Jaffe’s appointment as Vice President of Research and decreases in campus food waste. We analyze updates to campus carry — including the departure of economics professor Daniel Hamermesh — and increased female enrollment within the Cockrell School of Engineering. We also look to the Red River Showdown with Longhorn gameday predictions, and we break down the must-see artists of Austin City Limits Music Festival's second weekend. This newscast also features a review of Deafheaven's third album New Bermuda.​

July 31, 2014: In this podcast, Jacob Kerr and Amanda Voeller discuss the UT System Board of Regents naming Naval Adm. William McRaven the sole finalist to replace Francisco Cigarroa as chancellor and Abigail Fisher's request for the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to hear her case against the University en banc. They also talk with guest Nick Castillo about media reports on Texas football coach Charlie Strong removing multiple players off the football team for violating his core values.

July 17, 2014: In this podcast, Jacob Kerr and Amanda Voeller discuss the news and events surrounding President William Powers Jr.'s resignation on July 9. They also talk about the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals' decision on the Fisher v. UT case and candidates to replace UT System Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa.

July 3, 2014: In this podcast, Jacob Kerr and Amanda Voeller discuss the UT System's new investigation into the University's admissions process and a recent Daily Texan story on students denied transfer into the computer science department after they say advisors told them they would be admitted if they had at least a 2.5 GPA. They also talk about a recent package story on student loan debt.

June 12, 2014: In this podcast, Jacob Kerr and Amanda Voeller discuss some of the biggest stories in May, including the House Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations vote that grounds for UT System Regent Wallace Hall's impeachment exist. They also talk about the University's tuition rates for fall 2014, as approved by the Board of Regents.

May 2, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and special guest Bobby Blanchard recap the biggest news stories from the Spring 2014 semester. They also discuss Bobby's recent story on student housing on the UT campus.

April 25, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Madlin Mekelburg and Nicole Cobler discuss the recent on-campus Shared Services protest, which resulted in the arrest of 18 students. They also talk about the latest news surrounding the possible impeachment of Regent Wallace Hall.

April 18, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guest Nicole Cobler discuss a letter authored by three UT faculty members asking President William Powers Jr. to withdraw his endorsement of Shared Services. They also talk about Nicole's recent story on graduate student housing.

April 11, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guest Madlin Mekelburg discuss the past week's Civil Rights Summit, which was hosted on the UT campus by the LBJ Library to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act. April 4, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Julia Brouillette and Madlin Mekelburg talk about the recent Fort Hood shooting. They also talk about newly-released notes from a summer 2013 UT System Board of Regents meeting suggesting Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa asked President William Powers Jr. to step down and Jacob's recent story on traffic in the Austin area.

March 28, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Nicole Cobler and Chris Hummer discuss Texas Student Media's decision to keep The Daily Texan's print schedule at five days a week. They also talk about the ad hoc committee of student leaders' revised tuition proposal and Chris' story on the future of the Frank Erwin Center.

March 21, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Alyssa Mahoney and Madlin Mekelburg talk about Austin City Council voting to reduce the occupancy limit for unrelated adults in single family houses from six to four. They also discuss a recent email from UT System Board of Regents Chairman Paul Foster to Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa suggesting Regent Wallace Hall criticized Cigarroa's job performance weeks before the chancellor's resignation and possible revisions to the student leaders' tuition proposal, at the request of the regents.

March 7, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Alyssa Mahoney and Nicole Cobler discuss the results of Texas primary elections for governor and lieutenant governor. They also talk about Alyssa's in-depth story on the history and future of Waller Creek.

Feb. 28, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guests Nicole Cobler and Julia Brouillette discuss the results from the student elections, including the Rady-Strickland campaign winning the Student Government executive alliance race. They also talk about last week's Texas Student Media board meeting and a recent incident in which APD arrested a jogger in West Campus for "failure to identify" and "failure to obey a pedestrian control device."

Feb. 21, 2014: In this week's podcast, Jacob Kerr, Amanda Voeller and guest Bobby Blanchard discuss the Interfraternity Council's decision not to endorse any candidates in the student election races and the results of the Senate of College Councils election. They also discuss Bobby's recent in-depth story on connections between the executive alliance campaigns and student organizations on campus.
