The start of the 2019-20 season has been a roller coaster ride for Texas women’s basketball, but on Sunday afternoon, the Longhorns upset No. 1 Stanford 69-64 in an emotional home game that could reset the trajectory of their season.
The force was with the Longhorns on Star Wars Day at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas overcame a sluggish first half and turned a frustrating, hair-pulling game against the Central Michigan Chippewas into a comfortable 87-76 win, continuing Texas’ best start under head coach Shaka Smart.
On Friday, Texas pushed the Louisville Cardinals to brink of elimination. Yet, the Cardinals slipped past the Longhorns in five sets (22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-12) in their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2005.
