Summer enrollment at Texas universities increased 16.4% from summer 2019 to summer 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a preliminary data report by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The UT System further developed a plan to reopen in the fall at the Board of Regents teleconference meeting Wednesday. “The question is not whether we will be open and have class in the fall, it is how it will be done," System Chancellor James Milliken said.
UT-Austin President Gregory Fenves announced Tuesday morning he will leave the Texas flagship this summer to become president of Emory University. McCombs Dean Jay Hartzell will serve as the interim president.
While all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students will complete their classes and exams online, almost one-third of students enrolled in University Extension do not yet have the option to finish their self-paced courses online.
