Former Longhorn diver Dumais still going strong

He may be older than most divers, but Texas alumnus Troy Dumais is not ready to quit. Although his successful college career has been over for a long time, Dumais is still dominating in the pool.

The 31-year-old from California recently qualified to represent the United States at the 2011 Fina World Championships in Shanghai, China, at the end of July. Dumais will be competing in both the individual and synchronized three-meter springboard events.

While in college, Dumais had a lock on both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events. During his four years at Texas, from 1999 to 2002, he claimed the individual three-meter championship at the NCAA Division I championship meet each year. He also won the individual one-meter championship three out of four years.

His success reached national and international levels even before he came to Texas. As a junior diver, he set the record for most junior titles with 19, a record he still holds. Dumais was named the USA Diving’s Athlete of the Year in 1997 and again in 2006.

Now the three-time Olympian, who still trains with Texas diving head coach Matt Scoggin, is looking to take a trip to London for the 2012 Olympic Games.
