Women’s tennis extends their winning streak

Thursday afternoon proved to be the same story, only a different chapter, for the streaking Longhorns.

Although they played against an unranked opponent, the women showcased a newly found level of dominance as they defeated William & Mary 5-1. The Longhorns lost their last meeting to William & Mary, so avenging that loss played a huge role.

All-American Aeriel Ellis suffered a very close loss in her singles match that went all the way to a tie breaker set. Ellis currently has five singles wins on the year, including a victory over the No. 2 ranked player in the nation.

Freshman Noel Scott added another victory to her impressive first year as a Longhorn, winning her match in straight sets. The remaining Longhorns easily won their respective singles matches, giving the team a commanding lead entering doubles matches.

Due to weather, both teams elected not to play the doubles matches, resulting in a dominant win for the ladies.

Two straight victories have the women riding a hot streak, with great tennis being played by lower and upperclassmen alike. A top 10 ranking, an All-American and a freshman ranked in the top 100 players in the country puts the Longhorns in prime position for an even longer win streak.

This weekend’s match up against the SMU Mustangs will truly test the validity of the team’s win streak. The match will be aired live on the Longhorn Network at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
