Love will take the stage in the form of music with captivating harmonies and entertaining choreography at the Longhorn Singers “Seasons of Love” concert this Saturday.

The program interprets the theme literally and figuratively by incorporating songs about stages of relationships and feelings of love, along with the seasons themselves. The performance will take place at the William C. Powers Jr. Student Activity Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. $5 tickets can be bought online or at the door.

“Everyone on stage are best friends and we let that show,” said Claire Eastman, social work junior and Longhorn Singers president. “We love making music and dancing together, and on and off stage we love each other. We’re singing about love, who doesn’t love love?”

At this early spring semester tradition, the Longhorn Singers perform an annual love-themed fundraiser concert to raise money for their major end-of-semester shows. This includes their later spring concert and performances during Red River Rivalry Weekend in Dallas. As UT’s premier show choir, the group has sung traditional songs including “Texas Fight” and “March Grandioso” since the group’s founding in 1958.

“(The concerts) are a lot of hard work and there are tiring days, but it’s cool to see (members) come together working hard towards the same goal,” Eastman said.

In addition to group numbers, the Longhorn Singers concerts also feature specialties where members audition for a slot to perform a song of their choosing. Specialties can include solos, duets, trios and the occasional musical instruments.

“Our last number will be our big dance number,” said Sydney Jennings, public relations junior and logistics coordinator. “We’re really proud of our specialties.”

The concert will run for about an hour and a half with no intermission since the show will encompass 14 specialties and five group numbers, fewer performances compared to the major fall and spring productions.

“(The audience) will see a little dancing and great harmonies,” Shannon Perry said. “But they also see how much fun (Longhorn Singers) have with each other. We all do it because we love it.”

The setlist features a variety of genres including pop, jazz, musical theater and more. Jennings and Shannon Perry, a history senior and Longhorn Singers member, said audiences can look forward to hearing beloved songs ranging from Grease’s “Summer Nights” to Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

“(The audience) should expect to be blown away by our members singing classics (they) know,” Perry said. “I cannot imagine you would leave the show without smiling.”
