Big 12 Power Rankings

1. Oklahoma State Cowboys
The Cowboys currently sit at No. 9 in the AP rankings with a 3-0 record. Averaging 51.6 points per game, the Cowboys offense, led by redshirt senior Spencer Sanders, clicks on all cylinders. Oklahoma State faces their first true test this Saturday against No. 16 Baylor on the road after sitting out the past week with a bye.

2. Baylor Bears
Coming off a tough loss on the road to No. 19 BYU, Baylor rallied to beat Iowa State. Playing the Cyclones in Ames, the Bears took care of business, winning 31-24. Sophomore quarterback Blake Shapen threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday, leading the Bears to a 1-0 start in Big 12 play.

3. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners seem to have trouble against Kansas State every year, and this season was no different. At home against the Wildcats, the Sooners didn’t lead once last Saturday. Redshirt junior quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to lead his team to victory. Oklahoma has to figure out a way to stop the run if it wants to compete for the Big 12 championship.

4. Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks haven’t had a season above three wins since 2009. They are currently 4-0, and those wins weren’t against inferior competition. Kansas has wins against three good teams in West Virginia, Houston and previously undefeated Duke. Head coach Lance Leipold is in his second season with the Jayhawks and is already shocking the country. The Jayhawks face Iowa State at home this Saturday, and a win could even have Kansas ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2009.

5. Texas Longhorns
Key injuries hurt the Longhorns, who find themselves with a record of 2-2. After being upset by Texas Tech, it’s evident that the defense needs to figure out a way to play just like it did against Alabama. The season isn’t gone just yet, but Texas could be in trouble.

6. TCU Horned Frogs
Sonny Dykes’ Horned Frogs are 3-0 on the season, but their weak schedule is why they sit at No. 6 on this list. After a win over SMU in the Iron Skillet Battle, TCU had a week off before diving into Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs have a chance to prove themselves this Saturday against No. 18 Oklahoma at home.

7. Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats have upset No. 18 Oklahoma for the third time in four years. Senior quarterback Adrian Martinez hurt the Sooners with his legs all night, rushing for 148 yards and four touchdowns. Star junior running back Deuce Vaughn also picked apart the Oklahoma defense, rushing for 116 yards.

8. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Despite their upset win over then-No. 22 Texas, the Red Raiders are still a work in progress. They were behind most of the game and benefited from a fumble on the first snap of overtime. However, head coach Joey McGuire is building something special in Lubbock.

9. Iowa State Cyclones
The Cyclones are in a rebuilding year after the departures of Breece Hall and Brock Purdy. Although the team is 3-1 with a win over in-state rival Iowa, it lost its first Big 12 game against Baylor at home. Iowa State will have to prove themselves this weekend against undefeated Kansas if they want to move up the list.

10. West Virginia Mountaineers
Redshirt junior quarterback JT Daniels has been pretty quiet so far. Daniels transferred to West Virginia after losing out on the starting spot at Georgia. The Mountaineers lost their first two games to Pittsburgh and Kansas but have since beaten two mediocre teams.
