Sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter has declared for the NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility, per Hunter’s social media accounts.

This season, Hunter started all 38 of Texas’ games en route to the Elite Eight. He averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as the Horns’ point guard.

Hunter transferred to Texas this season after spending his freshman year at Iowa State, where he was named the 2021-22 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

Hunter could be the fifth offseason departure from the Texas roster — Texas will be losing graduate guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice along with senior forwards Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop, as they have no remaining college eligibility.

The NCAA early entry withdrawal deadline to return to college, should Hunter choose to do so, is May 31.
