Senior forward Dylan Disu will return to Texas for the 2023-24 season, per his social media Sunday. Disu, who transferred to Texas after two years at Vanderbilt, is using his bonus year of eligibility granted because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disu was Texas’ best player throughout postseason play, averaging 17.8 points and nine rebounds during the NCAA Tournament and Big 12 Tournament. After sustaining an injury in the Horns’ second round win over Penn State, Disu barely featured in a Sweet Sixteen win over Xavier and did not play in Texas’ Elite Eight loss to Miami.

The Pflugerville High School graduate, who grew up a Texas fan, was named Most Outstanding Player of the Big 12 Tournament. Over the course of the season, he averaged 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while starting 36 of Texas’ 38 games.

Disu’s return is a massive victory for Rodney Terry, who is rebuilding this Texas roster on the fly. Graduate guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice and senior forwards Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop are gone from last season’s team, as they have no remaining college eligibility. Sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter and freshman forward Dillon Mitchell have both entered the NBA Draft while maintaining their collegiate eligibility, while freshman guards Arterio Morris and Rowan Brumbaugh have both entered the transfer portal.
