Lorianne Willett

My journey at The Texan was nothing short of life-changing. The experiences and platform that I was able to obtain here is something that I truly think has influenced the journalist I am today, and has given me the impulse I needed to start new adventures in my career. I started in the investigative department in my second semester of freshman year, where I first learned what it’s like to really struggle with sourcing and filing open record information requests. After finding an interest in audio, I joined the Audio department for the entirety of my sophomore year. I am so grateful for Carly who allowed me to learn about editing while reporting, and who supported my goals of making the first audio story in my Spanish native language for the Texan. I am also very grateful for her patience as I worked around an often crashing Adobe software.

With MJ I learned responsibility and leadership as I rose to the Senior Audio Producer position. There, I got the pleasure of collaborating with staffers and starting the “People of UT” audio series that is still expanding today. My goal in audio was always to hand over the microphone to those that have made an impact however big or small in our community.

¡Muchas gracias!

Maria
