Select pharmacies in Austin and San Antonio will offer routine blood testing services beginning this July, according to a March 21 press release.

Healthcare tech company Babson Diagnostics will launch their blood testing service BetterWay, in select H-E-B, Peoples RX and Lake Hills Pharmacies in the Austin and San Antonio metro areas.

The BetterWay system is a “hybrid approach to blood testing” that operates in multiple steps, according to their website. Customers and doctors can order tests online, and pharmacists collect a small drop of blood for a variety of tests. BetterWay’s device automatically prepares the blood sample for testing with the help of a pharmacist and results are available a couple of days after testing. The testing is eligible for insurance coverage, according to the press release.

Babson’s business development lead is working with retailers to finalize locations, said Kristie Stanton, vice president of marketing for Babson Diagnostics, in an email.

“Our goal is to make BetterWay blood testing convenient and accessible across Austin,” Stanton said. “We will have over 50 retail locations in the Austin MSA. I would imagine BetterWay would be perfect for UT students.”
