With Texas football sitting at an 11-1 record this season, they were able to put up an off-the-field win on Wednesday. After National Signing Day, the Longhorns have secured the No. 1 recruiting class for 2025.
Texas has 24 commits so far, including four five-star, 14 four-star and six three-star signees.
Among the five-star commits are wide receivers Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench, who are both listed in the top seven wide receivers of the class by 247Sports. The two toured Texas back in June and will now most likely be catching passes from redshirt freshman quarterback and previous five-star recruit Arch Manning next season for the Longhorns.
Safety Jonah Williams is another five-star recruit that Texas won out over other schools in contention such as Oregon, LSU and Texas A&M. Williams is ranked as the best safety in his class and eighth in 247Sports Composite rankings.
Rounding out the five-star recruits that Texas obtained is Lance Jackson. The edge from Texarkana sits 25th nationally and fourth in defensive line rankings.
Another new addition to the Texas offense will be four-star recruit Michael Terry III. Terry has excelled in his high school career, playing wide receiver and running back accumulating over 1,300 receiving yards and over 1,800 rushing yards. The multi-position star will be able to give Texas yet another component in both their pass and ground game.
The Longhorns made more significant recruitment strides by flipping a number of high-profile commitments. Four-star defensive back Kade Phillips, who initially committed to Texas in July before joining LSU, later announced his return to the Longhorns just one day before the early signing period began. Similarly, four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma flipped from Oregon to Texas in July.
Myron Charles, a four-star defensive lineman from Florida, switched his commitment from Florida State to Texas after an official visit even after a late push from the Florida Gators. Lastly, defensive back Graceson Littleton was formerly committed to Clemson, but decommitted following a Texas offer on Nov. 1.
With a total of 24 newcomers, it seemed that Texas’ recruitment team was focusing on rounding out the defensive back room with the loss of a few key players after this season, signing five recruits in the secondary. They also made it a mission to sign some of the best wide receivers in the class to hopefully round out Texas’ passing game, which has been slightly inconsistent this season. The Longhorns also brought on four new offensive linemen with the potential of up to five blockers leaving for the draft, such as junior Kelvin Banks Jr. who currently sits as a potential first-round draft pick.
With the Longhorns sitting as the top recruiting class, there are many other programs that were able to clench highly coveted prospects.
In the Southeastern Conference, Alabama is ranked second nationally with a composite score of 304.69 and holding four five-star signees on their roster. Coming in third nationally, Georgia has a composite score of 302.34. After Oregon and Ohio State, Auburn sits as the next SEC team with the sixth-best recruiting class with 289.48. LSU follows at eighth with 283.57, Texas A&M at sixth with 283.53 and Tennessee clinching the 10th-best recruiting class with 279.26. These programs will all be teams that Texas will need to keep an eye out as the next season is on the horizon.
With Texas’ new additions, they will continue to have an unmatched depth in numerous aspects of the game, one of the reasons they have had such success this season and will hopefully carry into next season with this new and impressive class of players.
