Manor Garage, where Parking and Transportation Services most recently installed plug-in electric vehicle charging stations in October 2024, has shown continuous growth in usage in the six months since installation.

There has been a steady rise in the number of charging sessions each month, increasing from 50 when the data was first recorded in November 2024 to 182 charging sessions in the most recent evaluation in March 2025. There are 10 stations with 20 chargers in total in Manor Garage.
“The stations are helping to meet the growing demand of electric vehicles on the UT campus, which assist with reducing congestion and vehicle pollution,” said Kelly Greenfield in an email, manager of strategic communications.
Prior to the Manor Garage installation, Greenfield said there were charging stations at San Antonio Garage and PRC Lot 202 at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus installed in 2018. Each have two stations with four chargers in total.
Paul Muscato, the assistant director of parking operations, said planning for the Manor Garage installation began in October 2022.
“That location was a good location because we knew we had excess power and a demand for EV charging stations,” Muscato said. “It was easily accessible to both (the) public and permit holders that are in that location.”
Marc Vallee, parking services representative, has been working for Parking and Transportation for nearly 10 years, including spending the last two at the Manor Garage. He spoke to the Texan in February, when the garage had its largest increase in sessions, going from 123 in January to 177 by the end of February.
“I expect that it won’t be long before they’re all used, or there won’t be spots for people,” Vallee said. “The need for them is obviously here. I mean, you see electric vehicles all the time, and a lot of our students, faculty and staff drive (electric vehicles).”
Demand is assessed at a location by evaluating power availability and the number of people who hold permits and own electric vehicles. Muscato said Speedway Garage is “next on the radar” for charging station installation, with funds already designated for the next installation, a contractor identified and the stations purchased.
“PTS always strives to make time on campus more convenient for UT students and community members,” Greenfield said. “Over the next few years, PTS has plans to add stations to all existing garages, with plans to electrify Speedway Garage next.”
