Football season had its first home game last week against San José State University. Tradition in Austin is to find your best burnt orange and denim country outfit and bring the Longhorn energy to DKR. In light of the upcoming home games, The Daily Texan found five stylish places to find the best unique outfits for game day.
Leopard Lounge – 2928 Guadalupe St. Unit 102
Located on The Drag, The Leopard Lounge is a small vintage resell store featuring items dated all the way back to the 60s. While the production year of some items makes them expensive, other items are reasonably priced while showing off a unique style. From denim skirts to long fur coats, Leopard Lounge has a variety of pieces for morning and night game days. With items from the 2000s, Leopard Lounge shines a spotlight on a niche fashion sense, straying away from the typical game day outfit.
Texas Thrift – 8740 Research Blvd.
Located north of campus, Texas Thrift is a popular thrift store among resellers due to its prices. Most holidays, the store holds a 50% off everything sale, including this past tax-free weekend, making the already inexpensive clothing even cheaper. Other than clothing, Texas Thrift offers a wide variety of items including glassware, books and trinkets. Aside from their products, the store is also labeled from women’s blouses to formal dresses. All necessary game day items can be found within the walls of Texas Thrift, from athleisure to more formal outfits.
SoCo Makers Market – 1501 South Congress Ave.
South Congress is famous for housing an immense amount of clothing stores, reminiscent of a mini mall. The SoCo Makers Market highlights fashion entrepreneurs in the Austin area. Occurring some Thursdays and every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the tents are set up outside on the corner of South Congress. Many of these small tents have clothing items perfect for game days, including burnt orange leather jackets for cooler games and cowboy boots that fit the country theme of the games, reflecting the Austin energy in the stadium. Aside from clothing pieces, they also contribute handmade jewelry pieces and scarves.
Top Drawer Thrift – 5312 Airport Blvd.
Walking into Top Drawer, the store is full of everything needed for the perfect game day outfit and brings life to thrifting with eccentric posters and decorations. Top Drawer Thrift is, similarly to Texas Thrift, another donation-driven thrift store. With bright and colorful clothing that brings the fun spirit to game day, Top Drawer Thrift allows students to look their best while also giving back to the community. Along with being donation-based, all of their proceeds go to funding their hospice care and housing programs for people living with HIV.
Honorable Mention: Barefoot – 2338 Guadalupe St.
Located on The Drag, Barefoot, similar to the Co-op, fills its shelves with UT merch. However, Barefoot offers relatively cheaper items such as unique jewelry, pins and purses. Barefoot also provides an online website featuring items from other colleges, making shopping for game days more accessible for those looking to avoid shopping in person.
