Melissa High School guard Austin Goosby, the No. 18 nationally ranked prospect in the class of 2026 according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to the Texas Longhorns live on CBS Sports Monday afternoon.
Austin delayed his commitment on National Signing Day, instead narrowing down his options from four schools to just BYU and Texas. He made his decision to stay within his home state official on his birthday.
“The first 2026 (recruit head coach Sean Miller) called was me, so straight from the jump, I knew I was a priority there,” Goosby told CBS Sports. “They never stopped building that relationship with me and having the same goal in mind with me.”
The commitment boosts Miller’s first high school recruiting class as Texas’ head coach. The Longhorns landed Harvard-Westlake four-star guard Joe Sterling and local product Westlake High School four-star forward Bo Ogden, son of Texas men’s basketball general manager Chris Ogden, earlier in the recruiting cycle.
Austin will join his older brother, current third-year Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby, on the Forty Acres next year. As someone who has already gone through the recruiting process, Trevor was able to lend a helping hand in his brother’s recruitment journey.
“Coaching (was) kind of my big deal of why I came to Texas, and I was just telling him, ‘Make sure you find a coach that values you, values what you can do for them (and) values your development,’” Trevor said.
Although Miller has been well documented on the types of players he prefers — players that can develop within the program and not one-year guys that quickly move on to the NBA — Austin is in line to have a major role during his freshman season.
The Longhorns are expected to lose their veteran backcourt, which consists of graduate guard Tramon Mark, senior guards Jordan Pope and Chendall Weaver, all currently in their final year of eligibility.
Goosby, along with the rest of the 2026 class, will be expected to fill those open spots next season.
