Redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning underwent foot surgery earlier this week, Texas Athletics announced Friday morning. The procedure will limit Manning’s participation in off-season workouts. He is expected to make a full return in time for spring football.
“Arch Manning underwent minor foot surgery this week as a preventative measure to address a previous injury,” the statement from Texas Athletics said.
The program did not specify the nature of the injury or how long it had been lingering prior to the procedure.
Manning’s health is critical as Texas enters its third season in the Southeastern Conference, coming off a campaign that ended just short of a College Football Playoff berth. As a result, expectations around Manning and the program have only intensified, with the Longhorns entering the offseason with SEC Championship and playoff aspirations.
Manning is one of several Longhorns to undergo off-season surgery as Texas focuses on long-term health entering the 2026 season. In total, six players have had procedures since the conclusion of the season, and all are expected to be fully cleared by the fall. Among the notable names are sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo with a wrist injury, sophomore linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith with a shoulder injury and sophomore wide receiver Emmett Mosley V with an ankle injury.
Texas is coming off a 10–3 finish in the 2025 season, capped by a Citrus Bowl victory over Michigan. Manning delivered one of his most dynamic performances of the year that game, rushing for a season-high 155 yards, including two rushing touchdowns. In that game, Manning also completed 21 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
Manning is expected to build on the momentum he displayed at the Citrus Bowl, with the offense revolving around his dual-threat play and quick decision-making in the pocket. The Longhorns’ success will hinge on Manning’s consistency, leadership and health.
Manning is expected to be fully healthy and will enter his redshirt junior season in 2026, with the Longhorns set to open the season at home against Texas State Sept. 5.
