Texas men’s swimming and diving returned to Austin with a second consecutive Southeastern Conference Championship title, nine gold medals and one Commissioner’s Cup Trophy after the SEC Championships concluded on Saturday.
“(The team) works extremely hard,” head swimming and diving coach Bob Bowman said to ESPN. “… they worked well as a team, and they came to compete as hard as they could regardless of condition, so I’m super proud of that.”
On day two of the championships, the Longhorns broke a four-year-old Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center record previously held by Florida in the 800-meter freestyle relay. Freshman Rafael Fente-Damers, senior Baylor Nelson, junior Rex Maurer and junior Camden Taylor earned gold with a time of 6:06.24.
Day three of the championships consisted of record-breaking performances from senior Hubert Kós in the 100-yard backstroke (43.86) and junior Nate Germonprez (49.92) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
SEC Commissioner’s Cup Trophy recipient, Kòs, brought home three gold medals and broke three aquatic center records. After winning the 200-yard IM, alongside his fellow Longhorns and sweeping the podium, Kós said it felt like practice.
“It’s really special and (the team) is a group of really special guys,” Kós said to ESPN. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
On day four of the SEC Championships, Kós helped lead junior Will Modglin, Germonprez and Taylor in the 400-yard medley relay, where the group won gold with a time of 2:57.64. They shattered the previous aquatic center record of 2:59.87, set by Arizona State and topped Texas’ program record of 2:58.95.
On day five of the championships, 2026 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Maurer captured gold in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:08.46. Germonprez shattered teammate Will Scholtz’s SEC record of 1:49.59 with a championship time of 1:48.94 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On Saturday, Bowman officially led the Longhorns to two Conference titles, adding to Texas’ total of 68 conference titles across three leagues. However, Bowman isn’t done and said he’s looking for another win at their next competition.
“We got a big meet coming up in a month, let’s go,” Bowman said to ESPN.
The NCAA Zone D Diving Championships are slated from Mar. 9th to 11th in College Station, Texas, at the Rec Center Natatorium.
