The spring semester flew by, as all the Life&Arts reporters — or as we affectionately call ourselves, “lartists”— spent their days finding sources, taking notes during concerts and catching up on the latest albums and films. To celebrate the end of an eventful semester, The Daily Texan put together highlights from the past four months as well as some of summer’s upcoming buzz-worthy moments.
Music
Looking back: The spring semester saw major headliners at the Moody Center, from The Neighbourhood to Lady Gaga. South by Southwest boasted music documentaries on Jack Johnson, Noah Kahan and Los Lobos, as well as stellar performances across Austin and at the annual Sips and Sounds festival. Student musicians found their voices at the Cactus Cafe, and The Daily Texan covered Two Step Inn for the very first time.
Looking forward: The Austin Blues Festival promises more festival fun this month. More exciting tours make their way to the Moody Center this summer, including George Strait, A$AP Rocky and Ariana Grande.
Film
Looking back: South by Southwest brought the latest indie films to Austin, while the Texas Film Awards celebrated the state’s rich film scene, including the induction of “Spy Kids” into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. The Texan also spoke with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in an exclusive interview about their film, “Wuthering Heights.”
Looking forward: This summer holds exciting new releases, such as the nostalgic sequel, “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” Horror fans will be excited by “Backrooms,” while fans of comedy and action flicks await “The Invite” and “The Odyssey.”
Student Life
Looking back: This semester, the Texan launched its new relationship column, Love ‘n’ Longhorns, exploring romance on campus. Students found connection across the Forty Acres through fitness challenges, conferences on banned books and BIPOC PoP, dance, esports and much, much more.
Looking forward: As students head home, go abroad or stay close to campus for the summer, new student-led projects come to life, and RecSports continues to offer students fitness classes and opportunities before school starts up again in August.
