The Longhorns are readying themselves for the Head of the Hooch regatta meet this coming weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn. This past weekend, the team competed in the Head of the Colorado Regatta here in Austin.
The first varsity eight boat of coxswain Megan Kelly, stroke Melanie Eckert, Laurel McCaig, Hannah Moon, Jessica Glennie, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Kim Gorcyca, Sydney Boyes and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner, finished in first place in the open eight, with a time of 16:09.4. The second varsity eight boat, made up of coxswain Rachel Donnelly, stroke Taylor Parker, Chelsea Burns, Devon Clark, Karli Sheahan, Olivia Nail, Anna Thomson, Katie Trovato and Courtney Nicklas, finished in third with a time of 16:48.0. The third varsity boat, which included coxswain Emily Lantz, stroke Brenna Coldren, Casey Redman, Lyndsey DuBose, Emily Jones, Lauren Studey, Tea Vrtlar, Jillian Byron and Sarah Pedersen, finished fifth in the race with a time of 16:52.9.
The Head of the Hooch takes place each year during the first weekend of November and consists of a 5,000 meter, or approximately 3.1 mile course, which starts on the Tennessee River and ends at Ross’ Landing Park in Chattanooga.
