The UT System Board of Regents decided to not have a referendum on tuition. According to them, UT students are “not well enough informed or educated enough to make a decision about tuition” and “having a democratic decision on tuition through this referendum would undercut the authority of the regents and tuition counsel.” That’s autocracy, not democracy.
