Texas Men’s Golf looks to get back in win column in Augusta

After winning its fifth tournament of the season in its last event, the Texas Longhorns men’s golf team will look to make it two event victories in a row this weekend in the Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga.

No. 1 Texas got back to its winning ways two weeks ago at the two-day Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin after finishing the two previous tournaments in sixth place. This came after a four-event win streak that allowed the Longhorns to climb to the top of the collegiate rankings.

The Longhorns are hopeful to begin a new win streak this weekend in Augusta, where they will participate in the two-day event that begins Saturday.

The Longhorns will also look to continue their individual dominance this weekend, as a trio of Texas golfers, senior Dylan Frittelli, freshman Jordan Spieth and junior Julio Vegas tied for first place in their previous event. That said, the main priority for the Longhorns will be to come away with their sixth tournament win in 10 attempts in the season.

Texas is one of 16 teams traveling to Augusta to compete for the weekend, and as the top ranked team in the NCAA, it is the favorite to come away on top. The Longhorns will send Spieth, Frittelli, Vegas, senior Alex Moon and sophomore Toni Hakula to contend for a second consecutive victory and sixth overall.
