Texas rebounds from loss with conference win

Texas didn’t get off to the strong start that they wanted in conference play this weekend with a loss to rival Oklahoma, but the Longhorns were able to take the court again and walk away with their first conference win.

On Sunday, the Longhorns took on Oklahoma State. Texas swept the doubles matches to get on the board first after the duo of junior Chris Camillone and sophomore David Holiner won their match.

In singles, Texas won four of the six matches to earn the 5-2 decision over the Cowboys. Posting wins for the Longhorns were freshman Soren Hess-Olesen, sophomore Sudanwa Sitaram, junior Alex Hilliard and Holiner.

“I thought we had some good performances,” said head coach Michael Center. “We took care of business.”

On Friday, the Longhorns hosted the Sooners in both team’s first conference match. Texas lost 5-2.

“I give Oklahoma credit,” Center said. “They played well. We have had some guys with little injuries, and we didn’t train as well over the last couple weeks. Overall, they just out-played us.”

The Longhorns have a quick turnaround for their next conference match against Baylor on Wednesday.

“We always have a challenge with Baylor,” Center said. “They always have great teams, so I expect a very tough match on Wednesday. Hopefully we will get some guys healthy and we will go over there and be ready to go.”
