One man has been injured after colliding on a motorcycle with an automobile at the intersection of Rio Grande and 24th streets at about 6:40 p.m. Monday.
Austin Police Department officer Dale Lambert, who arrived on the scene after the accident, said the motorcyclist was traveling north on Rio Grande Street at a high speed when it ran a red light and collided with a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee carrying six passengers.
The man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge but the extent of his injuries are currently unknown, Lambert said. None of the passengers of the Jeep Grand Cherokee were injured.
The accident caused all lanes of traffic from 24th and San Antonio streets to 24th and Pearl streets to be closed. Minor damage was done to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and it was able to leave the intersection without assistance. The motorcycle sustained significant damage to its front end visor and was removed by APD.
